Keeton & Co Real Estate fits Richmond sellers who want a local headquarters in Glen Allen, a principal broker in the building, 706 closings in the last 12 months and more than 4,200 transactions all-time.
I’ll make the case for us first, then tell you what I could verify about five other firms so you can decide fairly.
Why would a Richmond seller choose Keeton & Co?
Keeton & Co is independent and broker-owned (since 2020), with offices in Glen Allen, Forest and Charlottesville. The Glen Allen headquarters at 4235 Innslake Dr covers Henrico, Hanover, Chesterfield, Goochland, Powhatan and the City of Richmond.
The firm has over 1,600 five-star Google reviews across its three offices, though most belong to the Glen Allen office. It was named to the RealTrends Verified Best Brokerages 2025 list, which verified 718 transaction sides and $295.32M in sales volume for 2025.
And there’s a principal broker in the building, not just a support line. That matters most when an offer gets complicated or an appraisal comes in short.
What are the other Richmond options?
I’ve described only what I could read on a page I loaded, linked at each statement. Most of these are news reports from earlier years, so ask each firm for current figures.
Long & Foster. Its newsroom lists a Grove office in Richmond, a Richmond/Charlottesville regional manager, and describes the company as part of HomeServices of America. That structure may suit a seller who wants a large national company behind the agent.
The Steele Group | Sotheby’s International Realty. According to Richmond BizSense in 2023, it had just over 70 agents, a main office on Patterson Avenue and a satellite office in the Fan, and had been affiliated with Sotheby’s since 2014. It reported more than $383 million in total sales volume for 2022. It may suit sellers who want a local firm with an international brand.
Samson Properties. BizSense reported in 2023 that the Chantilly-based firm had about 5,500 agents and 36 offices, entered Richmond in 2021 and owns a title-settlement arm, Cardinal Title Group. It may suit sellers who like having a brokerage and a title company under one corporate roof.
National cloud brokerages. Several national, technology-based brokerages have added Virginia agents and teams in recent years, often with stock incentives and team programs. They may suit someone who wants a national brand with a growing local roster.
Joyner Fine Properties. A 2019 release said Virginia Credit Union acquired it, that it kept its own brand and operated independently, and that it had more than 180 associates. Those are 2019 figures. It may suit sellers who want a locally branded firm that describes itself as independent.
How do the firms compare side by side?

Whichever firm you pick, you’re hiring a person, not a logo.
What is the Richmond market asking of a seller?
In September 2026 the Richmond metro median home sold in 12 days at a median of $430,000, from 1,025 closed sales. Of those, 37.3% sold above list and 25.9% had a price reduction.
Inside the City of Richmond, the median was $385,000 and 9 days (186 sales). Those are medians across every price range, so they say little about one house. My read is that pricing from your own comparable sales matters more than any average. Our guide to pricing with few comparable sales covers that, and the Richmond metro market report has the full figures.
What should I ask any listing agent before I hire them?
Ask each agent the same things. Which recent sales near my home would you use, and what were their original and final list prices? How will the home be marketed, and who handles showings, photos and paperwork? What would you recommend I fix before listing? What will I sign, and for how long?
Listen for specifics about your street, not slogans. Our guide to choosing a listing agent in Virginia and guide to the best agents in Richmond go deeper, and our post on repairs before listing helps with the prep question.
What should I do next?
